Mathematical Chances of Evolution 01/13/2012
Here's a brief thought. If Adam and Eve's bodies were created through evolutionary processes, then the chances of their bodies being created in the expressed image of the Creator were very small, sort of like 1 in a million. But, as the following clip shows us, even with 1 in a million, there's still a chance! CommentsJack 01/14/2012 14:31
Yeah, this is where some sort of ID (not the "God of the Gaps" sort) has to come into to play -- that is, if we believe in some kind of literalism when it comes to being created in the image of God. If there is zero intervention along the way during the evolutionary process then God must have ordered things from the beginning with a specific outcome in mind -- right from the big bang.

Haha. Actually, you should sometime look up Simon Conway Morris, a very reputable evolutionary biologist, who points out that evolution may be much more convergent then scientists have supposed. This means that, among other things, there may be an underlying direction to evolution such that evolution producing creatures like humans may be highly probable!

Optimal in what circumstances? For many animals the eyes are more on the side to better see both behind and in front. For the type of environments our ancestors evolved from it was better to have them more in the front. I can't imagine too many environments where it's best to have them in back. (Although there is the flatfish although even there it's not really on back as such - depending upon what you mean by back) Clark 01/19/2012 16:14
I also think it's fair to ask how similar a body has to be to be in the image. There's probably a wide range of possibilities. I also think that even Mormon evolutionists typically accept God as interventionist. They just disagree with the type of intervention that an ID proponent urges.

I think we draw an imaginary line between life and the underlying force that makes it go, since thanks to the veil it's not apparent that one is an extension of the other. The ID people focus on the conductor waving the stick (well, that's where the science is) instead of losing themselves in the symphony. And that's what life is, with each life form playing its part. If its part involves evolving, that's what it does. Life finds a way.
